The Media Small Grants Program is an initiative by the U.S. Embassy to strengthen independent media in the Kyrgyz Republic. While the country has one of the region’s most open media landscapes, challenges such as self-censorship, financial instability, low professionalism, and the spread of misinformation persist. Independent journalists also face harassment and legal pressure.
This program aims to support a more inclusive and accountable democracy by empowering independent media outlets and NGOs working in media-related fields. Grants will fund projects that focus on:
- Promoting freedom of speech and press - Enhancing journalistic professionalism and media sustainability - Supporting government transparency, advocacy, and anti-corruption efforts - Educating the public on civil society contributions to social and economic development - Raising awareness about climate change and air pollution - Combating misinformation and disinformation
Grants are available only to Kyrgyz-registered nonprofit organizations, NGOs, associations, and independent media entities. State bodies can collaborate with eligible applicants, but U.S. and third-country organizations or individuals cannot apply.Apply for STATE BISHKEK PDS 23 0004
